This is because glued seams and internal fabric helps keep the form of the cap and ensures that the fabric fits tightly over the 9" x 9" square mortarboard. The graduation cap is crowned by a raised button to hold a wide array of tassels securely in place. Sturdy is not even the word when it comes to Graduation Source's shiny maroon cap, I was nearly blown away from shock when I took it out the box.
